Experts visits Israel & Jordan as part of an Agricultural study tour

An 7-member team from the agriculture department from one of the Union Territories (UT) visited Israel and Jordan with the aim of seeking collaboration and exposure to the progress made by Israel in the field of Agriculture. They visited several projects and sites in June 2019, to see innovations in sustainable farming and high yield production.

Through visits to traditional Israeli Kibbutz to experience their unique farming life and sustainable living they also spent considerable time in plantations and farms that had an abundance of fruits and vegetables especially banana, avocado and dates. A visit to dairy farms was enlightening with detailed discussions around cattle farming, feed, breeds and even marketing.

Of special interest was the visit to Aquaponic and Hydroponic farms to gain insights in technological innovations and achievements in irrigation. The group visited Netafin and the ARO Volcani Center Plant Sciences to explore advancements and research in animal science, plant protection, soil, water and environmental sciences, agricultural engineering and post harvest/food sciences.

Visiting the Holy Land was a unique experience as the group got a chance to visit holocaust museums, explore Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall, float on the Dead Sea and see Jordan's majestic Petra ruins.

The Quest is in touch with several organisations in Israel and is working on establishing stronger linkages that can provide insightful information, exposure, opportunities for tie-ups and sharing of technical know-how in vegetable, fruit cultivation, water and drip irrigation and other agri related cutting edge advancements that are useful for not just agri officials and administrators but also farmers and agropreneurs.
